Bethany Cunha, 43, is a passionate Reiki Master Practitioner and high school teacher with over 16 years of experience guiding preteens and teenagers. She holds Usui Holy Fire Reiki Certificates in Levels I, II, and III and is an affiliate practitioner of the International Center for Reiki Training. Bethany also holds Animal Reiki Levels I & II certifications, with plans to complete her Mastership in Animal Reiki in Fall 2025.
When I discovered Reiki I'd been in "fight or flight" for decades.
My path to Reiki unfolded after years of chronic nervous system dysregulation and physical burnout from the demands of teaching, motherhood, and my demanding athletic past. As a teacher in a Title 1 school for the first six years of my career, I gave my all to my students while privately enduring the heartbreak of seven miscarriages and the challenges of severe endometriosis. Convinced that hard work could fix anything, I kept pushing forward—until my body could no longer keep up. After an invasive knee surgery required a six-month recovery, I was forced to slow down and face the reality of living in survival mode. That pause became the beginning of a profound transformation.
During my recovery, I attended a wellness retreat where I met three Reiki Masters who introduced me to Reiki. What began as simple curiosity soon became a life-changing practice. Through Reiki, I learned to calm my nervous system, release years of physical tension and emotional grief, and restore balance to my body and mind. As my health began to improve, I experienced a renewed sense of peace, clarity, and connection.
Reiki didn’t just bring relief—it awakened something deeper, guiding me toward wholeness and purpose.
Today, Reiki is the foundation of Bethany’s life and the heart of her work. I continue to teach in public school but I do so with a new sense of purpose and direction. As a result, I'm especially passionate about supporting adolescents, women healing from infertility or miscarriage, and working mothers struggling with stress and overwhelm. My background in education helps me connect intuitively with young clients, while my own painful experiences allow me to hold deep empathy for women seeking balance and restoration.
I also extend my healing practice to animals through Animal Reiki, offering gentle energetic support to ease discomfort and restore harmony. Animals bring me a sense of joy that I can find no where else and I find that doing Reiki on animals is profoundly rewarding to both my furry patients and to myself!
Grounded in compassion and guided by experience, I believe that true healing begins within. Through Reiki, I help both people and animals return to a state of peace, resilience, and balance in body, mind, and spirit. It is the honor of my life to do this work.
